Emma Goldman: Anarchism, What It Really Stands For

anarch-wirsf-coverEmma Goldman’s essay: Anarchism What It Really Stands For, was written at a time when anarchism was widely considered the juvenile political exploits of bomb-throwing maniacs and nihilists. Her essay sought to show that in contrast to that view anarchism is a mature type of political thought with a dynamism that most other movements can only hope for, as well as having a strong ethical dimension and a built in opposition to capitalist oppression.

Essential reading for all anarchists, but especially those who think they are anarchists, but seem to confuse it with free-market economics.

  1. The link for ‘Why Bother (…)’ – page can not be found …

I tend to sympathize, at a ‘spiritual’ level, with Anarchism … but then again, this devilish misanthropist voice reminds me that human beings should not be trusted ’til proven otherwise …

  2. Not sure what that first sentence actually means…

I’m not an anarchist set in stone, but it has many of the tools against monolithic states. It’s just a pity that it has been getting hijacked by the free-market zealots.

  3. I meant to say that the link “Why Bother Going to the Beach When You Could . . .” is broken …

Of course those free-market-demagogues would like to spouse anarchism deprived of ethics …
